Sarasota Set to Welcome More Than 11,000 Visitors for 2026 USRowing Youth National Championships
One of the largest youth sporting events in the United States is returning to Sarasota County this month as the 2026 USRowing Youth National Championships takes over Nathan Benderson Park from June 11-14.
Now celebrating its ninth consecutive year in Sarasota County, the prestigious championship regatta is expected to attract more than 11,000 athletes, coaches, family members, and rowing enthusiasts from across the country. The event will once again transform Nathan Benderson Park into the center of the American youth rowing world while generating a significant economic boost for the Sarasota-Bradenton region.
A National Championship Event with Local Impact
The four-day competition is expected to bring more than 4,000 athletes and approximately 1,000 coaches to Sarasota County, along with thousands of spectators. Hotels, restaurants, attractions, and local businesses throughout the Suncoast are expected to benefit from the influx of visitors.
For many families, the championships are more than a sporting event; they are the culmination of a year of training and competition, with athletes earning their place through a demanding qualification process held throughout the country.
The regatta has become one of the most respected youth sporting events in America. Recent honors include recognition as SportsTravel’s Best Amateur Sports Event and the Florida Sports Foundation’s Best Event of the Year for a mid-sized market.
Nathan Benderson Park Continues to Shine on the National Stage
Over the past decade, Nathan Benderson Park has established itself as one of the premier rowing venues in North America. The world-class facility has hosted numerous national and international rowing events and continues to attract elite competitions because of its championship-quality course and spectator-friendly setting.
Local officials say events like Youth Nationals help showcase Sarasota County as a premier sports tourism destination while introducing thousands of first-time visitors to the area. The venue has also continued to build on its reputation as a hub for major events, including a recent April sports lineup at Nathan Benderson Park.
The championships will feature up to 43 events, with rowers competing for national titles and medals across multiple age groups and boat classes.
More Rowing Action Coming to Sarasota County
The excitement doesn’t stop when Youth Nationals concludes.
Following the championship regatta, USRowing will host the second annual USRowing Youth Beach Sprint National Championships at South Lido Key Beach on June 16-17. Beach Sprint rowing is one of the fastest-growing disciplines in the sport and is expected to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles.
In addition, USRowing’s U19 Trials will be held at Nathan Benderson Park during the same period. These trials help identify and develop athletes who may ultimately represent the United States in international competition. The park has previously been selected to host major USRowing events in Sarasota, reinforcing its place on the national rowing calendar.
Why This Event Matters
Sports tourism continues to be a major economic driver for Sarasota County. Events like the USRowing Youth National Championships fill hotel rooms, support local restaurants, generate visitor spending, and introduce thousands of families to the region’s beaches, arts scene, shopping, and outdoor recreation opportunities.
For local residents, it’s also an opportunity to witness some of the nation’s most talented young athletes competing at the highest level of youth rowing.
