Sandy Claws Beach Run Returns to Siesta Key for Its 48th Annual Event

Get ready to kick off the holiday season with fun, fitness, and festive cheer at the 48th Annual Sandy Claws Beach Run on Saturday, Dec. 14, at Siesta Beach in Sarasota. Whether you’re a runner, walker, or jogger, this beloved local tradition promises something for everyone, including a chip-timed 5K race and a one-mile fun run, both featuring beautiful beach views and plenty of holiday spirit.

Early Registration Discount: Sign up by Nov. 22 to take advantage of discounted rates, along with a special race packet that includes runner swag and a long-sleeve performance shirt. This year’s event promises to be even bigger and better, with hundreds of participants expected to don their most creative holiday costumes for a chance at prizes in the annual costume contest.

Race Highlights:

  • Chip-Timed 5K Race: Start at 8:20 a.m., with medals awarded to all finishers. The top six runners in each age group will receive awards.
  • One-Mile Fun Run: Kicking off at 8 a.m. for participants who prefer a shorter, more leisurely event.
  • Enjoy music, food, and raffle prizes after the race to keep the celebration going.

Presented by Sarasota County Parks, Recreation and Natural Resources, Friends of Sarasota County Parks, Boucher Brothers, Dr. Heidi K. Anderson-DOCS, and Eager Beaver, this festive event is part of the Manasota Track Club’s Fall Racing Series and supports a great cause—proceeds benefit the “Summer in the Parks” Adopt-A-Camper scholarship program, helping local kids attend summer camps.

Event Schedule:

  • Early Packet Pickup: Thursday, Dec. 12, 3–6 p.m. at New Balance Sarasota (1872 Stickney Point Road).
  • Race Day (Saturday, Dec. 14):
    • 8:00 a.m. – One-Mile Fun Run
    • 8:20 a.m. – 5K Race
    • Award Ceremony: Around 9:15 a.m., following the race, including race awards and costume contest winners.
