Race Through History: Join the 10th Annual RC Custom Car Open!
Calling all budding engineers and designers! The Suncoast Science Center/Faulhaber Fab Lab is thrilled to announce the 10th Annual RC Custom Car Open. Registration is now open for this hands-on competition, which invites students from kindergarten to 8th grade to team up, design, and race their own custom remote-control car in an event like no other.
A Decade of Creativity and Competition
This year’s milestone celebration takes participants on a “Journey Through Time.” From ancient civilizations to futuristic innovations, the theme challenges teams to reflect on history and imagine the future in their car designs. It’s a chance to celebrate 10 years of RC car fun while pushing the boundaries of creativity and engineering.
Workshops That Spark Innovation
Starting in February, teams of 2-4 students will attend hands-on weekend workshops to transform their cars into one-of-a-kind creations using the Fab Lab’s state-of-the-art tools. With access to 3D printers, laser cutters, and vinyl design stations, participants can bring their visions to life. Volunteers will be on hand to assist as students craft everything from prehistoric decorations to sleek, futuristic designs. Evening sessions are also available to accommodate different schedules.
Action-Packed Competition Days
The excitement peaks on April 11 and 12 during two days of competition. On April 11, teams will present their designs to a panel of judges during the design competition. The following day, racers will take to the track, navigating two custom-built courses inspired by the “Journey Through Time” theme. From intricate obstacles to high-speed straightaways, it’s sure to be a thrilling event for participants and spectators alike.
Prizes include cash awards, scholarships, and unique trophies crafted at the Fab Lab. Beyond the rewards, students will gain invaluable technical skills, boost their creativity, and build lasting memories through teamwork and innovation.
A Community Tradition
The RC Custom Car Open has become a beloved annual event, drawing families and young innovators from across the region. Registration is limited, so don’t miss your chance to join the fun. The $200 team fee includes everything: a remote-control car and accessories, eight weeks of workshops, race day t-shirts, and unlimited opportunities for learning and collaboration.
