From the healthcare.com website: Giving communities we serve a healthier tomorrow. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an estimated 2 million people in the U.S. suffered from an opioid use disorder in 2018. Tragically, more than 67,000 people died from drug overdoses, with opioids involved in 70% of those deaths. The opioid crisis has been declared a public health emergency and the misuse of prescription opioids often begins when they are obtained from a friend or family member’s medicine cabinet.
Join us on Saturday, October 24, 2020, and help “Crush the Crisis” by participating in an opioid take back event near you. HCA Healthcare facilities across the nation will partner with local law enforcement to raise awareness about opioid addiction and to collect unused and expired prescription medications for proper disposal. This year, HCA Healthcare events will align with National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, sponsored by the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).
Hospital staff, volunteers and uniformed law enforcement officers will be present at each collection site to help with the safe and anonymous disposal of your unwanted medications.
To help keep patients, colleagues, and members of our communities safe, HCA Healthcare Crush the Crisis Opioid Take Back Day events will adhere to established CDC safety protocols to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
