Mattison’s Riverwalk Grille Blues Brunch Sunday featuring RJ Howson

| Caryn V. Hodge |

It’s even harder these days to find really good live music now that socially distancing and mask-wearing is the new normal. It is a bit easier though when you consider that outdoor restaurants offer a more socially distance friendly environment. Mattison’s Riverwalk Grille in Downtown Bradenton is one such place. Situated on the beautiful Bradenton Riverwalk, Mattison’s is a local’s favorite spot to dine on good food, listen to great music, and relax.

Amazing Food, Great Music

This local eatery offers some of the best outside, open-air, al fresco dining in our area. They also offer music several times a night, but on the fourth Sunday of each month during their weekend brunch, the music is Blues. And we are not talking just any blues band. The monthly Blues Brunch features musicians and bands who have been vetted by Realize Bradenton to represent the nonprofit’s annual, nationally known, and award-winning Bradenton Blues Fest. These musicians have played with the greats like BB King, Buddy Guy, Dickey Betts, and hail from places known for being the nurturing grounds for blues. And if listening to authentic blues wasn’t enough to make you run to your phone to make a reservation, the food will surely seal the deal.

Owner Chef Paul Mattison and Riverwalk Grille Chef Alex Vazquez have created a variety of delicious brunch menu items like the Stuffed French Toast, Duck Confit Crepe with Blueberry Mascarpone, Niman Ranch Steak and Eggs, Riverwalk Breakfast, Omelets, Poached Egg with Avocado Toast and much, much more. Brunch drink options include a Build Your Own Bloody Mary Menu and Mimosas made with fresh, local Orange Juice. August’s Blues Brunch is Sunday, August 23rd, with brunch served 11-3, and music is 11-2.

Blues Brunch Featured Band for August

This month the featured Blues Band is RJ Howson. Fire branded in the Chicago blues circuit, roots rocker and bluesman RJ Howson picked up his skillful guitar chops performing and jamming with blues icons at Buddy Guy’s Legends club, Rosa’s Lounge, Kingston Mines, BLUES on Halstead and many other clubs in the Windy City and performing all over the Midwest. Since relocating to Bradenton Beach, he has been busy playing a steady stream of shows all over Florida including performances at Thunder by the Bay festival, the Dan Toler Benefit with Dickey Betts headlining, and Jannus Landing. RJ will get your toes tapping to some of the best blues music around.

So, mark your calendar for the upcoming Blues Brunch at Mattison’s Riverwalk Grille to experience authentic blues and a delicious brunch on the beautiful riverfront.  Reservations are suggested.  All tables and seating will be socially distanced, staff will be wearing masks and be following CDC protocols.
