Jazz Club of Sarasota Scholarship Fund Concert Sunday, July 30, 7pm
The 2017 Jazz Club of Sarasota Scholarship Fund Benefit Concert will feature a performance by The Old Souls, a group of former and current scholarship winners – including former members of the very popular youth group Jazz Juvenocracy.
Tickets are $20(advance) and $25(at the door). Advance tickets are available at www.wslr.org. The concert takes place on Sunday, July 30th at 7pm at the Fogartyville Community Media and Arts Center, 525 Kumquat Court.
Over the course of 30-plus years, the Jazz Club of Sarasota has granted hundreds of thousands of dollars to aspiring young jazz musicians in middle school, high school and college. The goal of the scholarship program of the Jazz Club of Sarasota is to further an understanding of jazz and/or to develop performance skills in the field of jazz. Residents of Southwest Florida, who are high school seniors or current college students, will be considered for one of our merit scholarships. College students may reapply for a scholarship each year of undergraduate study.
The Jazz Club of Sarasota, one of the largest and most active jazz clubs in the United States, is dedicated to preserving and promoting jazz, America’s original musical art form. Founded in 1980 by the late Hal Davis, the former publicist for Benny Goodman, the Jazz Club has approximately 600 members and is growing. The Club presents over 50 events throughout the year, including the Annual Sarasota Jazz Festival, for over 35 years, which is one of the major US jazz festivals.
