Hey Pumpkin!  Time to Head to Hunsader Farms 34th Annual Pumpkin Festival

| Jodi Schwarzenbach |

Pumpkin is the flavor of the month for October and November.  As December approaches, peppermint will encroach on pumpkin’s popularity.  But for now, pumpkin is all you can smell, taste, or debate.

Why is pumpkin such a seasonal favorite?  Some would argue it is the obvious nature of pumpkin being a staple in the Halloween festivities and jack-o-lantern fun.  And November holds Thanksgiving, and we all know one of the staples of the first Thanksgiving feast between the pilgrims and Native Americans is said to have pumpkins.  So, the taste factor implies “fall.”  Nothing better than a warm slice of pumpkin pie, maybe crowned with a little vanilla ice cream. Next comes the smell of it all.  Again, is there anything better than the aroma of a pumpkin pie baking away next to a turkey on Thanksgiving morning?  It was only time until some commercial genius decides to capsule that pumpkin scent into a candle or hanging car air freshener.

The massive sight of pumpkins is also an indicator fall has arrived, fun is in the air, the weather will be changing, and the family should gather for Hunsader’s 34th Annual Pumpkin Festival https://www.hunsaderfarms.com/pumpkin-festival.  Happening this year October 11-12, 18-19, and 25-26 from 9 until 5.  Admission is $15 for 10 years and up, $5 for children ages five through nine and free for under five.  Parking is $5 a day.  Admission is cash only though many vendors accept debit and credit cards.

Heading to Hunsader’s for the Pumpkin Festival is a family tradition everyone should establish.  I believe the first time I went to it was as an unmarried couple with my husband, just looking for a fall activity to welcome in the new season of fall.  As the years progressed, we took our children and it was always a quality, well-run and happy event to attend.
