This is an amazing group of musicians – this assembly of talent will be the first time that they will all perform a concert together, so this is a unique opportunity!
The recipient of a Grammy Nomination, an MTV Video Award, The 2005 Artist for a Better World award, and the 2006 “Spirit of Youth” award, Nadirah Shakoor is best known as the former lead female vocalist of acclaimed hip-hop group Arrested Development. In the last 15 years she has become well known and loved as the featured female vocalist of Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band. Nadirah’s CD “Nod to the Storyteller”, is a Tribute to Jimmy Buffett and includes her interpretation of 7 of his songs, 2 Nadirah songs, an Eric Clapton cover and an Art Neville song made popular by Buffett plus songs written by Nashville songwriters hall of famer Mac McAnally.
Nadirah is a seasoned professional who has performed for thousands at stadiums, and such mega concert events as Lollapalooza, Womad and Woodstock II, not to mention the millions who have experienced one of her sultry, earthy performances on television. In more intimate venues her voice and style have been described as no less than captivating.
About the Host – The Habitat House
The Habitat has chosen to host this show at The Bradenton Woman’s Club, but the place known as “The Habitat” is the private home of Ken and Heather Settlemyer who are passionate about the importance of nurturing both local plant and animal wildlife and independent musicians.
The concept of the House Concert is to provide a venue where musicians can come to be heard by those whose primary intention is to listen rather than to have music in the background. We host musicians to perform at The Habitat approximately one to two times per month, either on our outdoor stage, or on the indoor stage in the event of inclement weather or upon musician request. To date they have hosted over 80 concerts!
The Habitat is a house concert venue focusing on the “listening environment” for the musicians and patrons. They feature regular concerts by musicians primarily from the “Trop Rock” music genre, as well as some Americana, with the goal of spreading joy in the world!
The Habitat concerts are a private event, contact for an invite and bring a donation for the musicians. This is completely not for profit, all donations go in entirety to the artists, some of whom will have traveled from out of state! Food to share is always welcomed, but not required.
