Experience Neil Simon’s ‘Lost in Yonkers’ at Sarasota Jewish Theatre This March

The Sarasota Jewish Theatre (SJT) is set to present Neil Simon’s acclaimed play, “Lost in Yonkers,” from March 19 to March 30, 2025, at The Sarasota Players, located at 3501 S. “Lost in Yonkers,” which won the 1991 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, is a poignant and humorous exploration of family dynamics, highlighting the scars left by past experiences and the healing power of love. Directed by SJT’s Artistic Director, Carole Kleinberg, the play promises a blend of laughter, tears, and insightful storytelling. Single tickets are priced between $30 and $42.

Performance Schedule:

  • Preview: March 19 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Evening Performances: March 20, 22, 25, 26, 27, 29 at 7:30 p.m.
  • Matinee Performances: March 21, 23, 26, 28, 30 at 1:30 p.m.

The cast features talented actors including Josephine Phoenix as Bella Kurnitz, Carolyn Michel as Grandma Kurnitz, Michael Raver as Louie Kurnitz, and Aaron Garcia De Leon and Declan Moyer portraying the young boys, Jay and Arty. Scott Ehrenpreis takes on the role of Eddie, while Jill Schroeder plays Gert.

In conjunction with the play, SJT introduces the “Be A Theatre Maven” program on March 21 from 10:00 a.m. to noon. This immersive two-hour session begins with a continental breakfast in the lobby of The Sarasota Players. Participants will engage in a discussion led by Carole Kleinberg about the play and its playwright, followed by an opportunity to meet the technical team. Attendees will gain insights into the design and construction of the set, lighting, sound, props, and costumes, understanding the intricate coordination required to bring the play to life. The session concludes with conversations between Kleinberg and the actors about the challenges and techniques of character portrayal. Comprehensive study guides will be emailed to participants prior to the program. Tickets for this enriching experience are $35.
