Atomic Holiday Bazaar returns for season 15 in Sarasota!
Atomic Holiday Bazaar, season 15, moves to its new venue, Robarts Arena and street fair located behind the arena at the Sarasota Fairgrounds on 3000 Ringling Boulevard on Small Business Saturday, November 26, noon to 7pm and Sunday, November 27, 11am to 6pm.
Atomic has been on a two-year hiatus due to the Covid pandemic. While it is clear that Covid is here to stay, this season it appears that it is a safer environment with the success of vaccines and the people who are willing to take them, making the weekend event possible.
Adrien Lucas moved to Sarasota from L.A. in 2000 and decided to bring a bit of L.A. with her by creating a show with outlandish colorful craft and interesting people. Atomic launched in 2006 showcasing fifty unconventional crafters who needed an affordable and welcoming venue to sell their unusual handmade wares. By producing an alternative craft show for Sarasota’s hip shoppers, Atomic quickly grew into an annual Sarasota holiday shopping tradition.
This season the show features 170 vendors who create a wide range of interesting handmade arts and crafts in the theme of Atomic. Atomic continues to feature style trends in merchandise that often make their way to big box stores a year or two later, think of the recent past five years revival of 70s macrame wall hangings which you now will find at Target.
Atomic continues to feature a wide range of unusual items for all: screen printed t-shirts, faux taxidermy, upcycled everything ranging from home decor, clothing, jewelry, vintage clothing, kitsch, lowbrow to elegant fine art, holiday cards, jams, jellies and the best canned pickle selections ever, humorous chatchkes, ornaments, knits, doggie stuff, felted art, plants, plushies (unusual and humorous creatures), pop culture-graphic art posters, dark sentiments, body products, candles, beachy vibe stuff, ethnic Latin textiles, rock n roll edgy clothing, sweet little creations that make you sigh, get the picture?
The first lucky one hundred adult’ish humans who enter the main auditorium at the stroke of Noon receive a swag bag with vendor gifts of samples, stickers and coupons that may be used during Atomic. Totes are handed out by local roller derby league, the Bradentucky Bombers, who have been Atomic’s “welcome wagon hosts” since 2006.
Admission is $6 for adults, kids twelve and under enter for free. Food trucks, Mouthole BBQ and Big Blue Grilled Cheese Co. will be located in the street fair behind Robarts with the Arena Cantina open for hungry shoppers who also serve beer and wine. Plenty of free parking in front of Robarts Arena.
