Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota Presents “Voice of the Cello” – April 21 Performance Features Rising Stars

| Suncoast Post Staff |

Classical music lovers on Florida’s Suncoast have something special to look forward to this April as the Artist Series Concerts of Sarasota closes out its popular Top Shelf Tuesdays series with a powerful and intimate performance titled “Voice of the Cello.”

Set for Tuesday, April 21 at 7:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Sarasota, the concert promises an evening of world-class chamber music featuring rising stars in the classical music world. It’s the latest in a standout season — the Artist Series March lineup brought an eclectic range of performances to Sarasota, and April promises to close the season in style.

New Artists, Same World-Class Experience

Due to international travel complications, originally scheduled Canadian artists Cameron Crozman and Meagan Milatz are unable to perform. However, the show goes on — bringing fresh energy and exceptional talent to the Sarasota stage.

Taking their place are:

  • Andres Sanchez-Linares (cello) — A fast-rising talent who recently won First Prize at the 2026 National Sphinx Competition (Senior Division) and was a semifinalist in the prestigious Schoenfeld International Cello Competition. His expressive style and technical precision have quickly made him one to watch in the classical world.
  • Ying Li (piano) — An award-winning pianist with international acclaim, Ying Li captured top honors at the 2021 Young Concert Artists Susan Wadsworth International Auditions and has earned recognition from major festivals including the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival. She also has local ties as a past winner of the Artist Series Concerts Piano Competition.

A Program Rich in Classical Masterpieces

The April 21 program will highlight the emotional depth and versatility of the cello through a carefully curated selection of works. The Artist Series has long celebrated the cello’s unique voice in its programming, and this season’s closing performance is no exception.

The first half of the program features:

  • Music by George Crumb
  • Romantic masterpieces by Robert Schumann
  • Cello Sonata No. 3 in A Major, Op. 69 by Ludwig van Beethoven

Following intermission, the performance expands into a full chamber collaboration. Sanchez-Linares and Li will be joined by Daniel Jordan (violin) and Margaret Dyer Harris (viola) for Schumann’s groundbreaking Piano Quartet in E-flat Major — a piece celebrated for its rich textures and emotional intensity.

Why This Concert Matters

The Top Shelf Tuesdays series is known for bringing internationally recognized talent and emerging artists to Sarasota in an intimate setting. These performances offer audiences a rare opportunity to experience high-caliber classical music up close — without traveling to major metropolitan concert halls.

Sarasota has long been recognized as a cultural hub on Florida’s Gulf Coast, with organizations like Artist Series Concerts playing a key role in nurturing both artists and audiences. The full Spring 2026 season has been one of the most ambitious in the organization’s 30-year history, and “Voice of the Cello” is a fitting finale.
