400 Beach in Downtown St. Pete Will Not Be Re-Opening, Welcome Juno & The Peacock

After nine months of closure for renovations, 400 Beach will not be reopening its doors. Instead, a new restaurant and cocktail lounge, Juno and The Peacock, are set to take its place on Beach Drive in downtown St. Pete, with an anticipated opening this summer.

400 Beach, originally opened by local restauranteur Steve Westphal in 2009, was a pioneer on Beach Drive, which has since become downtown St. Pete’s restaurant hub. Despite the risks of opening a large restaurant in the area, 400 Beach thrived for 12 years before being sold to Shawn and Jeanna Damkoehler in 2021.

In partnership with the Damkoehlers, Volet Hospitality acquired Alto Mare and Annata Wine Bar in 2020, with plans to merge the two into a larger Annata. However, these plans evolved, and Allelo, a Mediterranean restaurant, opened in their place.

Following 400 Beach’s closure in June 2023, the 8,200-square-foot space underwent a complete transformation by New York-based design firm AvroKO. The new design features a sophisticated and playful ambiance, with lush textures, statement pieces, and a bold color palette.

St. Pete-based RenoBoyd Building Co. is overseeing the renovation as the general contractor.

Juno and The Peacock, named after one of Aesop’s fables, will offer a menu of American dishes such as dry-aged steaks, along with modern coastal cuisine like a seafood tower, seared grouper, and crab cakes. The restaurant will also boast a selection of 1,400 wines, primarily from New World regions, as well as classic cocktails.

Opening daily for lunch, dinner, and weekend brunch, Juno and the Peacock will also be home to Pluma, a new cocktail lounge with a South and Central American influence. Pluma will serve as an extension of the restaurant, providing a space for pre or post-dinner drinks, or as a standalone nightlife destination.

Juno and The Peacock, along with Pluma, are expected to open their doors this summer at 400 Beach Drive in downtown St. Pete.
