The Blessing Bags Project – Caring for the Homeless and Less Fortunate on the Suncoast
This has been a tough year for many here on the Suncoast. Yet there are organizations like The Blessing Bags Project that long before 2020 were caring for those less fortunate in our communities. This group of volunteers and strategic partnerships throughout the Suncoast seeks to provide basic and critical needs to those less fortunate in our community. Looking at their Facebook and website is an inspiration for all that they are working to help make better for those who need it the most.
Since their inception in 2014, this organization’s goal is to ensure that those most in need in our communities are provided necessities from the gathering of travel size items, personal hygiene products, sunscreens, and hand sanitizers that are then Ziploc bagged and handed out to those needing them the most. Additionally, Beanie Baby bags for the children are endeavors this group helps oversee to bring a bright spot into a children’s otherwise challenging situation.
The Blessing Bags Project & The Holidays
As we head into the holiday season, one of the most cherished and difficult times of the year for many, it is the toughest for such organizations that serve those most in need. Unfortunately, 2020 has not been a kind year to individuals with so many out of work, facing evictions due to job losses, the worry of illness, and others separated from families with no immediate hope of Christmas together this year.
The large gathering of families, children, and others customarily served by The Blessing Bags Project at their Holiday Party takes on a new normal for them this year. A virtual drive-through for families to get food, Christmas gifts, and a quick family photo from a socially approved distance is in the works.
Fundraising, like other normal activities, has been hindered this year, but this group remains determined to serve as many as possible through this coming season. Every donation makes all the difference to nonprofits in our community, such as this one. While it has been a tough year, we all need to take a quick moment and count our blessings and see if a donation or volunteer opportunity is within our reach. At the very least, give a shout out to those that have remained diligently on the front lines helping those most in need during all seasons, but especially 2020, which will probably be one for the record books for a good long while.
