‘Paying it Forward’ – SKOB helps BBBS of the Sun Coast

| Laura Bell Adams |

That is one of the reasons Beth Owen Cipielewski  of Siesta Key Oyster Bar, or as we  locals like to call it, SKOB, will be a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast’s Chef’s Cooking for Kids event. The event on June 7th from 6 to 9pm at IMG Golf and Country Club features music by The Billy Rice Band, delicious culinary samplings from 18 local Chefs and restaurants around Manatee and Sarasota County. Not to mention great silent and live auction items. All proceeds will go to benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast one-to-one mentoring programs.

SKOB  is one of the many restaurants you will get an opportunity to try some of their delicious food when attending the event. Beth  took the time to answer some questions  to tell us why she supports Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast.

Tell us your name and the restaurant you are associated with and what type of Cuisine is served.

Siesta Key Oyster Bar is part of BBBS of the Sun Coast's Chef's Cooking for Kids event. My name is Beth Owen Cipielewski – my restaurant:Siesta Key Oyster Bar,  Co-Owner with my sister – Jill.  We are a beach location that servers 2000-3000 oysters a day and  of course Beach food and seafood.

How long has your restaurant been open and where are you located?

We are fortunate to be on Siesta Key and with all of its  accolades. We have been open over 14 years

Tell us why you are a part of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Sun Coast  Chef’s Cooking for Kids event and how many years have you been involved with the event?

This is our 2nd year.  My sister and I are extremely into Philanthropy.  Our Chef – Gino Calleja, is so outstanding that we feel we must show off his talents.  He loves to support this event and he gets very creative with his dishes!

Did you have or do you have a mentor that has helped you in life?

My youngest son was matched in high school, by the schools recommendation and it was truly beneficial for him.  I have always wanted to support our youth,  and I choose myself to become a Big Sister  2 years ago.  Love it!!
