The Giving Challenge

Multiply the Good During The Giving Challenge April 9-10, 2024 Here on the Suncoast

| Suncoast Post Staff |

The Giving Challenge is an exciting 24-hour online giving event that connects about 700 nonprofit organizations with passionate donors and community members to support diverse causes and create enduring impact in Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties. The Blessing Bags Project in Manatee County is one such nonprofit that will be participating in this year’s 24-hour challenge, starting tomorrow, April 9th, at noon and ending on April 10th, at noon.

The Blessing Bags Project was founded in 2014 by a group of concerned citizens in Manatee County to address the homeless population in the community. Providing hygiene products, necessities, warm meals, and special one-on-one requests for children and families alike is a big undertaking for this and many organizations. Homelessness due to job loss, situational poverty, and other circumstances has increased in recent years due to COVID-19, the housing crisis, mental health concerns, and various other concerns. The Blessing Bags Project continues to expand the opportunities they bring to people most in need in our community.

To further their mission in Manatee County, The Blessing Bags Project is taking on a new initiative called ‘Lunches with Love.’ Lunches with Love is a Pay it Forward Project to make sure every child in Manatee County has a free lunch. All children attending Title 1 school qualify for free lunch. Let’s work together so every child in Manatee County has (2) free meals per day.

Thanks to the Patterson Foundation, all donations made within the 24 hours of The Giving Challenge will be matched.

  • $25 donation will provide (1) month of free lunches for an elementary student.
  • $50 donation will provide (1 and 1/2) months for a middle or high school student.
  • $75 donation will provide free lunch for (3) elementary students.
  • $100 donation will provide reduced lunches for (25) students.
