It’s a Very Happy Hour When You’re Feeding Children Everywhere.
4,800 people are fed because of Swordfish Grill & Tiki Bar– and that’s not including the 120+ weekly visitors to the popular waterfront restaurant’s Happy Hour Extravaganza.
April 6th was a big day for the Swordfish, and the fight against hunger. Every Wednesday, Swordfish has a fun-filled themed Happy Hour with live music, cold drinks, and jokes by GM Bob Slicker. Always the highlight of the week, this particular Wednesday was even more special for Bob. This Happy Hour would be dedicated to making a difference. It would be for Feeding Children Everywhere.
The hunger epidemic is in every county, community, and corner of the world. 1 in 9 people around the globe are fighting hunger every day. Not only does hunger affect physical health, but it affects mental health as well – making it hard for children to focus in school with an empty stomach or causing them to miss class because their bodies aren’t strong enough to fight illnesses. It’s not just affecting third world countries, it’s happening right here at home as well. According to a recent study, almost 50,000 Manatee County residents and nearly 60,000 in Sarasota County, are struggling to put food on their tables.
The problem is evident but the solution is simple.
Tourists, locals, and Swordfish staff came together to raise money for Feeding Children Everywhere (FCE), a non-profit based out of Orlando that is dedicated to providing healthy meals for hungry children all around the world. The 125 guests of the restaurant compiled $592 in donations – an amazing contribution to this charity that boasts that for every dollar received, they will package and ship four meals somewhere in the world. Swordfish matched the donation (and them some) writing a check for $1,200 which will provide 4,800 healthy meals for those who need it most. FCE’s Communications Manager, Molly Slicker, was born and raised in Manatee County and is elated to see her hometown joining this important initiative.
When $1 feeds 4 kids, Feeding Children Everywhere makes it easy and accessible to join the fight against hunger in local communities and communities worldwide. $15 dollars can fund meals for an entire orphanage in Haiti and it can fill the shelves of crisis food pantries in right here at home.
