Hope Family Services- Helping People To Get Out Of Abusive Households
There’s a wonderful organization in Manatee County that is helping people who need to get out of abusive households.
Since 1979 Hope Family Services (www.hopefamilyservice.org ), a not-for-profit organization, has been providing an emergency safe shelter in a confidential location for victims of domestic abuse. They have room for 35 clients at a time. Each room has beds for the parent and their children with a community kitchen and dining area. There are also living areas with TV’s and a playroom with toys for children as well as an outdoor playground.
There’s a 24 hour, 365 day a year Helpline (941) 755-6805 with someone to give good information in an emergency.
And they can help with financial, housing, food, clothing and referrals to other aide. HOPE will also assist with court-related matters like Injunctions for Protection and go with clients to court if necessary.
Counseling is provided for adults and children. They offer individual and group counseling and weekly support groups to give clients the tools they need to cope with their current situation and to improve their futures. Hope partners with Women’s Resource Center in Manatee County to help educate with job training. Hope Family Services also provides preventive programs to youth to help them understand the warning signs of an abusive relationship.
Hope Chest is a resale shop where all proceeds benefit Hope’s clients. To donate or to buy you can visit them at 1215 8th Ave. W. in Bradenton, Fl.
Hope is all about empowering individuals to be independent so they can get out of their abusive situations and take care of themselves and their children.
What can YOU do to help? Volunteer – you could help in administration, or with children’s programs. They need help in the shelter. Donations – there are about 400 unrepeated clients a year. That takes money for food, personal items, bedding, etc.
On September 17th, 2015, there will be a fundraiser at the Swordfish Grill and Tiki, Cortez, FL. 100% of the ticket and raffle proceeds will go to Hope Family Services. Ladies Sing The Blues….we hope to see you there.
