After a successful 2018 – 2019 fiscal year for the Hernando De Soto Historical Society (HDHS) they are gearing up to take the 2019 – 2020 fiscal year to the next level. They are working on some exciting upgrades to events that have yet to be released to the public.
The Hernando De Soto Historical Society is closing out their 80th Year Campaign “80 Years of Giving Back to our Community”. Each year the Hernando De Soto Historical Society hosts 10 – 15 events to raise money to give back to our community. Founded in 1939 the Society has served a mission of fostering and facilitating an appreciation of Manatee County’s Spanish-American heritage and cultural alliances through special events, community collaborations and charitable giving.
The Hernando De Soto Historical Society consists of around 200 volunteer members. These members help make their mission possible by collaborating and putting on successful community events. The Society is adding a new event to the calendar and bringing back a few events from years past.
Main Street Open, the brand-new event being put on by HDHS this year! The event will be held on Saturday October 5th in Downtown Bradenton. The Main Street Open is an event being hosted at 9 local bars and restaurants in Downtown Bradenton; each location will be tasked with creating their own Mini Golf hole and each team will play every hole once.
The 21st Annual Hernando De Soto Charity Golf Tournament will be held on Saturday October 19th at River Wilderness Golf and Country Club. The Historical Society will be hosting their 2nd Annual De Soto Poker Tournament in October at the Bradenton Moose Lodge. HDHS will be bringing back their Reverse Raffle event from the past and hoping for a larger public show of support, this event will be on November 2nd. The local favorite events like Bottle Boat Regatta, Children’s Parade, Beertopia, Coronation Ball, Grand Parade and more are on the books and steadily being planned.
