SUMMER FLING! Fundraiser to Help Farmhouse Animal & Nature Sanctuary in Myakka City

| Suncoast Post Staff |

Join us for live music by Bri Rivera, food, drinks, dozens of raffles donated by local businesses, and a 50/50 drawing. While you are there enjoy a meet and greet with some of the FANS animals and be sure to enter the pool tournament with first and second place prize packages. The Sanctuary needs to raise funds to address flooding issues in some of the animal pastures during rainy season. The donations will be used to raise the feed area in the Kangaroo yard as well as raise the area behind the horse stalls which is becoming dangerous for the horses. C&C Rescue Foundation, Sarasota, Florida

Chris Gelsleichter and Colleen Pearce of C&C Rescue Foundation have been hosting their annual C&C Rescue Rally fundraiser for 11 years in Sarasota, most recently at Sun N Fun under their outdoor pavilion. As animal lovers, they started the event to help raise funds for and draw attention to local nonprofit rescues. Each year they choose a few animal rescues, including FANS, to benefit from the rally and split the funds between them.

David Hanneman, a supporter, philanthropist and friend of Chris & Colleen’s, noticed how the event had grown and approached the ladies about creating their own 501c3 nonprofit. With their blessing, in February of this year, David put the plan into action, donating to their organization as well as filing for their 501c3 and started work on their upcoming website. As a 501c3 they will be able to offer not only their annual huge fundraiser but also smaller individualized fundraisers for rescues in need.

While volunteering at FANS, Chris & Colleen saw firsthand the urgent need to raise areas that flood during rainy season behind the horse stalls and in the kangaroo feed area. They decided to host this special Summer Fling fundraiser for FANS. To learn more about C&C Rescue Foundation contact Chris at critter_391@hotmail.com

Farmhouse Animal & Nature Sanctuary, Myakka City, Florida

Founders, Dave & Lisa Burns, volunteered for eight years at a local wild and exotic animal rescue/rehab and later became live in care takers at that sanctuary. When the sanctuary was closing, they decided they needed to continue caring for the animals currently under their care and help other neglected, abused and unwanted animals as well. They started their own nonprofit in late 2017, receiving their 501(c)3 determination in early 2019.

While continuing to give the animals a place to feel safe, the goal of Dave & Lisa, along with their board of directors and volunteers, is to teach a new generation the joy of caring for animals. FANS is working towards programs geared to help underserved youth and young adults. The focus will be to teach them a way of life caring for animals and nature with the intent of piquing their interest in pursuing a career in animal care/vet services and/or horticultural and landscape services. In addition, we will soon be offering private educational tours and classes to help raise public awareness and understanding of what it takes to care for the specific animals at the sanctuary. Bri Rivera

Good Music with a Sense of Humor. Bri was born and raised in Cidra, Puerto Rico. She grew up in a very musical family. Attending festivities with live music always intrigued Bri.  At age 9 she picked up the Cuatro, a typical instrument from PR, at age 12 she decided to become a guitarist and I hasn’t looked back. Bri says she has been singing as long as she can remember, never realizing she was not that bad. She got to the U.S. in 2006 and in 2012 started playing music in what she calls “my new hometown”, Sarasota.
