Bradenton Women’s Club Celebrates 100 Years of Service…
The Bradenton Women’s Club is a non-profit charitable organization serving the Bradenton Community in so many helpful ways and with a powerful mission statement. As a member of The General Federation of Women’s Clubs, which is the world’s oldest, non-partisan, non-denominational, and non-profit volunteer service organization, it is dedicated to community improvement through volunteer service and to providing opportunities that strengthen the role of women.
For 100 years the Bradenton Women’s Club has offered their services to philanthropic projects including the Bradenton Library, The Children’s Academy of Southwest Florida, Habitat for Humanity, Special Olympics, and so many more needy causes that would fill this page. The stately old mansion that houses the Bradenton Women’s Club was completed in 1921 for $23,000 and has been serving the community ever since.
The idea for the club was a brainstorm of 16 women who wanted to start a civic organization to improve the community and came up with a philosophy: Be not simply good, be good for something. The building was completed in 1921 and was ready to be dedicated but had not one chair to sit in or any furniture or supplies for a start-up. A distress meeting was called and the organization was able to buy enough chairs so that people could be seated on the day of the dedication of the building. Being nothing short of a miracle, this enthusiastic Club started from an idea and a treasury of $3.00!
The fabulous and historic building is available for weddings, parties, and any event you would rent an entertainment or business venue for. A weekly dance and fundraiser takes place every Friday night and the monies collected are all going towards repairs and updating for the building housing the Club. Click on their website, below, for details about the weekly dances and other activities and opportunities to participate.
The Bradenton Women’s Club is definitely an organization deserving of support as it serves as a volunteer organization for the betterment of the educational, moral and civic condition of the community that has served Bradenton since 1913. The Club’s fundraising efforts and the money collected are the only income Bradenton Women’s Club has.
