While “favorite airline” is not based on a formal public popularity poll, Allegiant’s growth across the region tells the story. At Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, Allegiant has played a major role in SRQ’s explosive passenger growth. SRQ ended 2025 with more than 4.5 million passengers, the busiest year in the airport’s history. At Sarasota Bradenton International Airport, Allegiant has steadily expanded its footprint. That growth has been especially visible over the past two years. In 2025, Allegiant launched service from SRQ to seven new destinations and promoted one-way fares as low as $39 on those routes. The airline also added Sarasota/Bradenton-Toledo service beginning November 20, 2025. In February 2026, SRQ announced that Allegiant was beginning nonstop service to Rochester, New York, further strengthening the airport’s connections to the Northeast.

In early 2026, PIE added three new Allegiant nonstop routes: Atlantic City, Trenton, and Huntsville. That brought the airport to 63 nonstop destinations, according to Spectrum Bay News 9. The same report noted that PIE handled nearly 2.8 million passengers in 2025 and that Allegiant is the airport’s primary carrier. That matters for the Suncoast because PIE gives travelers from Manatee, Sarasota, Pinellas, and Hillsborough counties another strong low-cost airport option. For many people, flying out of PIE is faster, easier, and less stressful than using a larger airport.

Allegiant’s biggest advantage is simple: nonstop flights at fares that often look much lower than traditional carriers. From St. Pete-Clearwater, Allegiant lists nonstop options to cities including Asheville, Knoxville, Key West, Bangor, Grand Rapids, Allentown, Syracuse, Flint, Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, Indianapolis, Chattanooga, Atlantic City, and more.

The important thing for travelers to understand is that Allegiant is an ultra-low-cost carrier. The base fare may be low, but extras such as carry-on bags, checked bags, seat selection, priority boarding, and onboard purchases can add to the total price. Allegiant’s own Sarasota/Bradenton page reminds customers that adding bags at booking can help lock in the lowest bag price and explains that charging for carry-ons helps manage overhead bin space.

For price-conscious travelers who pack light and plan ahead, Allegiant can be a very affordable option. For travelers who need flexibility, multiple bags, premium seating, or daily flight frequency, comparing the final all-in price is important.

Why Locals Like Smaller Airports

Another reason Allegiant works so well on the Suncoast is the airport experience itself. Sarasota Bradenton International Airport and St. Pete-Clearwater International Airport are easier to navigate than larger hub airports.
