Target Expands Presence with Large-Format Store Near Lakewood Ranch

| Suncoast Post Staff |

Retail giant Target is set to enhance its footprint in east Manatee County with a new store at Marketplace at Heritage Harbour, adjacent to an existing Costco on Lighthouse Road. The new store, spanning nearly 150,000 square feet, marks a significant increase in size compared to Target’s average store size and is part of the company’s strategy to offer a broader merchandise selection and accommodate its same-day order fulfillment digital strategy.

The location of the new store, just off Interstate 75 and State Road 64, strategically places it about a mile from the vibrant community of Lakewood Ranch. The move follows Target’s two-year plan to build larger stores, a departure from its traditional footprint, to meet evolving customer needs and shopping preferences.

While Target has not officially commented on the new location, a building permit application was filed with Manatee County in January. The application, submitted by TH Harbour LLLP, matches the address of Edgewood Properties, one of Marketplace’s developers, suggesting progress towards the new store’s realization.

The addition of this new Target store will make it the fourth in Sarasota and Manatee counties, and the second in Bradenton. It will provide shoppers in the area with a more extensive range of products and services, including same-day order fulfillment, aligning with Target’s vision for its stores of the future.

Target’s move towards larger-format stores reflects a broader trend in the retail industry, where companies are adapting to changing consumer preferences and shopping behaviors. By offering more extensive product assortments and enhanced services, Target aims to stay competitive and meet the evolving needs of its customers.

The new store’s design is expected to feature a more open layout and incorporate local elements, in line with Target’s commitment to creating engaging and community-centric shopping experiences. While the timeline for the store’s opening remains uncertain, the project signals Target’s continued investment in expanding its physical presence to better serve its customers.
