Sarasota Jewish Theatre Awarded $10,000 Grant To Support 2027 Mainstage Season
The Sarasota Jewish Theatre has received a $10,000 grant from The Exchange to help support the theater’s 2027 Howard Millman Performance Series, continuing the organization’s mission of bringing meaningful Jewish stories, history, humor, and culture to audiences across Florida’s Suncoast.
The grant funding will assist Sarasota Jewish Theatre’s highly anticipated 2027 mainstage season, which will run from February through May 2027 and feature three acclaimed productions:
- We Had a World by Joshua Harmon
- Moonlight and Magnolias by Ron Hutchinson
- Kindertransport by Diane Samuels
The theater announced the grant this week in Sarasota.
Honoring Howard Millman’s Legacy
The Howard Millman Performance Series was officially named during the 2026 season to honor the lasting impact of the late Howard Millman on Sarasota’s theater community. Millman was widely respected for his dedication to the arts and his support of live theater throughout the region. The Suncoast Post previously covered how Sarasota Jewish Theatre honored Howard Millman in its 2025-2026 season.
Founded to celebrate Jewish life and culture through the performing arts, Sarasota Jewish Theatre has become an important part of Sarasota’s vibrant arts scene. The organization presents productions that explore both the uniqueness and universal themes of Jewish heritage, values, family, resilience, humor, and identity.
SJT is also a proud member of the Alliance for Jewish Theatre, a national organization dedicated to supporting Jewish-themed theater and artists throughout North America.
Three Productions Planned for 2027
The upcoming productions each bring unique themes and storytelling styles to the stage:
- We Had a World explores family relationships, memory, and identity through contemporary drama.
- Moonlight and Magnolias offers a fast-paced comedic look behind the scenes of Hollywood during the making of Gone With the Wind.
- Kindertransport is an emotionally powerful play centered on the rescue of Jewish children during World War II.
Sarasota continues to be recognized nationally as one of Florida’s premier arts destinations, with organizations like Sarasota Jewish Theatre helping drive year-round cultural tourism and live entertainment opportunities for both residents and visitors. Recent coverage of Sarasota Jewish Theatre includes the production Cherry Docs at Sarasota Jewish Theatre and the theater’s 2025 Newish Jewish Play Reading Series selections.
