Local Artists Pull Together on the Suncoast
Coastal Flow Gallery was originally created by local artists John Hendershott and Jessica Gill back in the beginning of March 2020 to be used as a storefront that could highlight John’s handmade Surfboard tables and bar sets which are primarily sold at large festivals and various retailers.
However, when the outbreak of Covid19 came about and the festival and retail world came to a standstill, the duo had to do some quick thinking on their feet.
Scary future
“We had just signed a lease and now weren’t sure when festivals or retailers would resume. Its really scary to have income that has been your way of life for years just all of a sudden dry up. We decided to keep positive and make the best out of an uncertain situation. First thing that came to mind was to ban together with other artisans who may need a place to display their art/craft pieces.
We reached out to one of our favorite promoters, Nancy Ambrose from Coquina Beach market and let her know of our store and whoever was interested could contact us to collaborate and provide a one of a kind shopping experience for consumers once retail was allowed to reopen.”
Now open
Coastal Flow Gallery is now open at 7216 S. Tamiami Trail in Sarasota and has been getting wonderful feedback for the originality of the store. Patrons have really been impressed with the quality and passion involved from the 13 local artists that currently participate in the gallery.
“It’s been a really fun experience, getting to know each artist on a one on one basis, finding out how they got started and where their creativity is driven from. We are proud of our little store and love working together to co-create a wonderful unique shopping destination for the town.”
