Highly Anticipated Suncoast Luxurious Resort Opening on December 15

The highly anticipated Sunseeker Resort Charlotte Harbor has set its grand opening for December 15, Allegiant Travel Co. confirmed in a recent earnings report.

The announcement marked an important milestone for the company, as Maurice J. Gallagher, the newly appointed CEO and the original founder of Allegiant Airlines, highlighted the near completion of the luxury resort. Gallagher took the helm as CEO in September, succeeding John Redmon, and expressed his unwavering belief in the resort’s prosperous future, anticipating the impending rewards of the venture.

The journey to the resort’s launch has not been smooth. Initially slated for a late 2020 debut, the Sunseeker Resort has encountered numerous setbacks, including a pandemic-induced construction hiatus that lasted 17 months starting in 2020, damages from Hurricane Ian in 2022, and worksite fires earlier in the current year.

Previously scheduled to open in October, the plan was delayed once more in August, with investors receiving only a brief notification devoid of a revised launch date until this latest update.

The cumulative delays have inevitably escalated the financial investment in the project. Originally projected at $510 million, the expenditure had exceeded $653 million by September 30, with $17.4 million of that spent within the third quarter alone.

In preparation for its eventual inauguration, Allegiant has been diligently recruiting staff, with 800 job acceptances reported last month and more than 300 individuals already employed. This includes key positions such as a new director of food and beverage and an executive chef.

Upon opening, the 785-room Sunseeker Resort is poised to offer a plethora of amenities, including 20 dining venues and bars, dual swimming pools, a luxurious spa and salon, an expansive 117,000-square-foot ground level experience, an exclusive adults-only rooftop haven, and a significant 60,000 square feet of meeting space. Outdoor attractions will feature a harbor walk and an 18-hole golf course for enthusiasts.

Alongside the announcement of the resort’s opening date, Allegiant also reported a slight increase in its third-quarter operating revenue, which rose to $565.4 million, a 0.9% gain from the previous year.
