Fresh Seafood Market in Historic Downtown Palmetto, FL – Seagrape Seafood Market & Cafe

Just a few blocks from the Manatee River in historic downtown Palmetto, there is a fresh seafood market known as Seagrape Seafood Market & Café. Located at 421 10th Avenue West Palmetto you can find a variety of seafood, whether you are looking for a fresh catch to bring home for dinner, or you would like a quiet sit down with family or friends, this quaint café/market will surely have what you’re looking for.

We had the pleasure of meeting Helen Dixon (owner) who politely greeted me upon walking into her establishment. Apart from having a love for seafood, Dixon is an accomplished Marine Biologist and Seafood Specialist with years of experience in both wild fisheries and world aquaculture research and development. Her husband and business partner, Ted Pasquantonio, spent 15 years preparing meals at Anna Maria Island’s Rod and Reel Pier making his famous Seafood Gumbo and other fine seafood delicacies.

They opened the market in 2016 and are proudly walking into their fifth season. Dixon said, “My customers are my neighbors,” and she enjoys talking with them and educating them on where her fresh seafood comes from and just how important it is to follow the shelf life guideline saying, “You shouldn’t house fish longer than two days without cooking or refreezing depending on your preference.” Always use the “two-day rule of thumb” to be safe! Dixon filled us in on where she sources her fresh fish, it comes in everyday locally from Gulfport, St Pete, and Madeira Beach.

Local’s that dine-in look to their ‘daily special’ board for mouthwatering seafood specials to complement their taste buds. Most often they carry Fresh Grouper, Mahi-Mahi, Salmon, Amberjack, Hogfish, Halibut, Snapper, Mussels, Scallops, and Shrimp. Want to know the Fresh Fish of the day? On the Menu: Rueben’s, Wraps, Crab Cakes, Salads, Peel & Eat Shrimp, Lobster Bisque, Smoked Fish spread, house-made sauces and more! Have your eye on a fresh fish in the case? They will be glad to serve up a dinner portion for you! Try your fish with their grill seasoning, blackened or spicy-pecan crusted, served with grilled veggies, rice and a mixed green salad.
