Breeze Airways Expands Operations with Fort Myers Base
In October 2024, Breeze Airways designated Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers as one of its operational bases, marking a significant milestone in the airline’s expansion strategy. This move aligns with RSW’s ongoing $1 billion renovation project and its status as one of the top 50 U.S. airports for passenger traffic, having served over 10 million passengers in 2023.
Establishing a base at RSW enables Breeze to station aircraft overnight, facilitating early morning departures and enhancing service reliability. The airline plans to initially position three aircraft at the airport and hire up to 200 staff members, including local flight attendants, pilots, and technical maintenance crews. While the majority of staff are hired locally, some team members may relocate to Fort Myers.
Since its inaugural flight from RSW in June 2022, Breeze has experienced rapid growth in Fort Myers. By October 2024, the airline expanded its offerings to 26 destinations from RSW, including new routes to Lansing, Michigan, and Bangor, Maine. This expansion reflects Breeze’s commitment to connecting underserved cities and providing more direct flight options.
Founded in 2021, Breeze Airways focuses on serving routes between underserved cities, bypassing traditional hubs to reduce travel times. The airline has grown to operate over 200 nonstop routes between 66 cities across 30 states. With a current fleet of 28 Airbus A220 aircraft and 90 on firm order, Breeze plans to continue its expansion, adding more frequencies and destinations from Fort Myers in the coming years.
The establishment of a base at RSW not only enhances Breeze’s operational capabilities but also contributes to the local economy through job creation and increased connectivity. As Breeze continues to grow, Fort Myers is poised to become a central hub in the airline’s network, offering travelers more options and convenience.
