Avelo Airlines Extends Sarasota-Bradenton Flights Into Spring 2027, Giving SRQ Travelers More Options

Travelers using Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport will have another reason to start making their spring travel plans early. Avelo Airlines has extended its booking schedule through April 20, 2027, opening additional spring travel dates across its network, including service involving Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport (SRQ). The Houston-based low-cost carrier says customers can now book flights to more than 35 destinations across the United States and Puerto Rico.

For Sarasota and Manatee County travelers, the schedule extension is particularly noteworthy because Avelo continues to provide nonstop service connecting SRQ with the Northeast.

Avelo’s Nonstop Destinations From Sarasota-Bradenton

Avelo currently offers nonstop service between Sarasota-Bradenton and Tweed-New Haven Airport (HVN) in Connecticut, an increasingly popular alternative airport for travelers headed to southern Connecticut and portions of the New York metropolitan area. Published schedules currently show approximately two nonstop flights per week on the Sarasota-New Haven route during portions of the fall schedule, although frequencies and operating days change throughout the season. The nonstop flight is approximately three hours.

Avelo is also offering seasonal nonstop service from SRQ to Wilmington Airport (ILG) in Delaware, which the airline markets as an alternative gateway for the Philadelphia and Delaware Valley region. Current schedules show the Sarasota-Wilmington service beginning in November 2026, with roughly two weekly departures during portions of the schedule. The flight takes approximately 2½ hours.

Importantly, Avelo has not indicated that every SRQ route will necessarily operate continuously through April 20. The April date represents the airline’s newly opened booking window, and passengers should check individual travel dates because seasonal routes and frequencies can change.

Avelo Opens Spring 2027 Schedule

Avelo announced the latest schedule extension on August 26, saying travelers can now book flights through April 20, 2027. The airline advertised introductory one-way fares beginning at $42 on select flights and dates when announcing the extension. Those promotional fares are limited and do not necessarily apply to Sarasota flights.

Avelo’s base fares also don’t necessarily represent the final cost of a trip. Travelers can pay additional fees for such options as checked and carry-on baggage, advance seat assignments and other services. Head of Network and Revenue Trevor Yealy said the expanded booking window is designed to allow travelers to begin planning spring vacations and weekend trips earlier.

Reservations are available through Avelo Airlines.

12 Destinations Available Through Avelo’s Central Florida Network

Avelo said its broader Central Florida network currently provides access to 12 destinations through six Florida airports:

  • Aguadilla, Puerto Rico
  • Atlanta, Georgia
  • Charlotte/Concord, North Carolina
  • Dallas/McKinney, Texas
  • Detroit, Michigan
  • Grand Rapids, Michigan
  • Nashville, Tennessee
  • New Haven, Connecticut
  • Philadelphia/Wilmington, Delaware
  • Rochester, New York
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Wilmington, North Carolina

The six Florida airports included in that network are Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport, Tampa International Airport, Southwest Florida International Airport in Fort Myers, Orlando International Airport, Daytona Beach International Airport and Lakeland International Airport. However, these are not all nonstop destinations from Sarasota. The 12-city list represents Avelo’s combined service from the six Florida airports.

Avelo Has Grown Rapidly Since 2021

Avelo began scheduled passenger service on April 28, 2021, becoming the first new mainline U.S. airline in nearly 15 years. Since then, the carrier says it has transported more than 10 million passengers on nearly 80,000 flights. As of its August announcement, Avelo reported serving 37 destinations across 15 states along with Aguadilla and San Juan in Puerto Rico.

The airline has built much of its business around nonstop service and the use of smaller airports in major metropolitan regions. New Haven is a good example. Tweed-New Haven Airport can offer Connecticut travelers an alternative to larger airports such as Bradley International, LaGuardia and JFK. Likewise, Wilmington Airport in Delaware provides another option for travelers visiting Delaware, southeastern Pennsylvania, Philadelphia and parts of New Jersey.

More Competition Is Good News for SRQ Travelers

Avelo’s schedule extension comes as Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport continues to develop into a significant Gulf Coast aviation gateway. For local passengers, the practical benefit goes beyond simply having another airline at SRQ. Additional carriers and nonstop routes can create more competition for passengers, potentially giving travelers additional choices in departure times, airports and fares.

Avelo’s Northeast routes can also be valuable to the Suncoast’s large population of seasonal residents and visitors traveling between Florida and Connecticut, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey and surrounding states. And the airline isn’t alone in planning ahead for the 2027 season. Other carriers have also been building their spring schedules at SRQ, further illustrating how competitive the Sarasota-Bradenton market has become.

What Travelers Should Know Before Booking

Passengers considering an Avelo flight should compare the total trip cost, rather than the advertised base fare alone. Baggage, preferred seating and other optional services can increase the final price. Travelers should also compare the convenience and cost of their destination airport. For example, Wilmington Airport can be convenient for some Philadelphia-area travelers but is located in Delaware rather than Philadelphia itself. Tweed-New Haven can be extremely convenient for southern Connecticut but may not be the best choice for someone whose final destination is farther north in the state.

Schedules are also subject to change, particularly on seasonal routes. For Florida Suncoast travelers already thinking about winter getaways or spring 2027 trips, Avelo’s extended booking calendar provides another opportunity to secure nonstop travel from Sarasota-Bradenton while schedules and fares are still being released.
