A Feel Good Story from Publix Supermarkets

Meet Omar, the Store Manager at Publix store 1215 in Venice, FL. Omar’s journey with the supermarket began in 2007 as a front service clerk, bagging groceries in Ocoee, FL. “After the unexpected passing of my father in 2007, I was searching for jobs across Central Florida to support my mother and three brothers. I applied to store 405, and that’s where my journey began.”

Omar soon transitioned to the grocery department, drawn by the physical nature of the work. “By 2010, I was determined to advance within Publix after discussing leadership roles with my Assistant Store Manager, Judd. I was promoted to Grocery Team Leader, and the rest is history. While money was my initial motivator, I found fulfillment in coaching and developing others for their future. This newfound motivation inspired me to aim higher, ultimately leading to my promotion to Store Manager in November 2019.”

In his role, Omar embodies the Publix culture. “I strive to be the ‘Mr. George’ of my store, training and preparing our associates for success and future opportunities. I lead a team that ensures our customers receive the exceptional service they expect from Publix.”

Omar’s goal is to advance as far as possible while giving back as much as he has received. “I want to impact others’ lives as mine was impacted. I owe much of my success to what I’ve earned and accomplished at Publix.”

For Omar, Publix is more than just a job. “It’s about being part of something larger than myself. The ‘thank you’ calls or messages I receive when someone achieves their goals are incredible, even when I least expect it or didn’t realize I made an impact.”

Omar exemplifies the essence of hard work and dedication at the supermarket. “Publix is a great place to work because there are countless opportunities for everyone to achieve their goals. No matter when you start, the possibilities are endless.”
