One of the first things you need to think about is the market you’re trying to tap into. You need to be able to target a specific audience so that you can attract plenty of regular customers who want to use your goods and services. Once you’ve figured out who you should be advertising to, you need to then look at the competitors that are already set up, and think about how you can stand out from the rest. This is why good market research is extremely important in distinguishing your business from other businesses with a similar model, as customers are likely to stick to what they know and trust.


Having a business that is running well only goes so far if it’s situated somewhere hard to find, or far away from your main customer base. For this reason, location is extremely important, and you should spend a good amount of time figuring out where it would be best to have your business. If the business is online then this doesn’t matter so much; however if you need customers to visit your shop or store in person to purchase goods or services, then being located somewhere that’s easy to access is very important.

Start-up costs should never be underestimated when setting up a new business. How much a business will cost to start up will depend on the type of goods and services that you plan on selling. For example, a restaurant will be a lot more expensive to set up, as you need to first buy a property in which to locate the restaurant, not to mention all the equipment you might need, as well as any decorating that’s required. On the other hand, if you’re setting up a consultation service that’s mainly online then the costs will be a lot lower. You should estimate how much it will cost to start up your business and decide if you have enough to make the investment in the first place. You don’t want to get halfway through setting up a business and find out that you’ve run out of the necessary funding to complete your project.
