SUNY at Old Westbury

While I realize that you are not an alumnus of the SUNY College at Old Westbury, I am writing to you to ask for your support of the Old Westbury College Men’s Basketball Program. As you may be aware, I am now in my third season as an assistant coach of the men’s basketball team.  The head coach, Bernard Tomlin, was the first coach that I hired when I served as the General Manager of the Long Island Surf of the United States Basketball League (USBL).  Bernard has the most wins of any college coach on Long Island (more than 300).  He was an All Long Island player at Malverne High School and led Hofstra University to its first NCAA tournament appearance.

As an NCAA Division III program, we cannot offer any of our players athletic scholarships.  Also, our program has a limited budget for travel, scouting, recruiting and practice gear.  Consequently, we rely heavily on contributions from alumni and friends for these expense.  Thanks to generous guarantees from host colleges, we are commencing our season with a five game trip to the Pacific Coast (Oregon and Washington).  However, the guarantees do not fully cover the expenses for the trip.  For that reason, we are asking for contributions from friends, former players and Old Westbury College alumni.

You may be aware of the fact that I recently had published a children’s book, Pip, Veronica and the Harmonica.  It has been selling very well in both the USA and overseas.  I am offering to donate a copy of the book to anyone who makes a contribution ofm $50 por more to the Old Westbury College Men’s Basketball Program for the 2013-2014 season.

Last season our team had a 25-04 record and won the regular season Skyline Conference championship.  We then went on to win the nECAC Division III Mid Atlantic championship.  While we lost our two high scoring seniors to graduation, our Skyline Conference MVP, Tyrik Tucker, is returning and we have added an excellent supporting cast.  We enter the upcoming season as the favorites to win the Skyline Conference championship.

Thank you for whatever consideration you give to this request for support of our program.

Best regards, Ed Krinsky

Contriibutions, which are tax deductible, should be made out to the Old Westbury College Foundation and mailed to Bernard Tomlin, Head Basketball Coach, SUNY College at Old Westbury, PO Box 210, Old Westbury, NY 11568.
