Now that our snowbirds are gone, one of the best-kept secrets in our own Sarasota backyard is Sun-N-Fun – a mega-RV and recreational resort located at 7125 Fruitville Road just east of I-75.

Whether you’re a family with young children or teens, a grandparent, or just a kid at heart, there are endless opportunities to play away the day and evening at this award-winning resort this summer. I’d highly recommend stopping in to get one of their Summer Adventure brochures or monthly calendars or visit the website for a comprehensive look at the hundreds of options for recreation that this award-winning, mega-resort is offering up.

You might want to start with a Day Pass ($9 for adults, $6 for children) and plan to spend the day and into the evening to enjoy a plethora of outdoor activities. You’ll have access to:
Two kidney shaped hot tubs. The Olympic-size pool. Hundreds of sunning lounge chairs or shaded tables and chairs. A splash zone for the little ones. A four-story water slide. An 18-hole mini golf park. A toddler playground. A 15-acre fishing lake. Corn hole, ping pong and more games by the pool. And for nourishment, the pool bar and grill serve up some excellent food and drinks (get the kids slushies while you sip on an adult-version frozen Pina Colada or Strawberry daiquiri).

If you go on a Wednesday or Friday, one of the most innovative activities is the “Dive-in Movie.” Beginning at 8 pm just as the sun is setting, the pool turns into a sparkling, wet movie theatre, as the inflatable big-screen showcases the latest PG and G-rated movies and you can literally float in the pool to watch or sit alongside it and eat some snacks.

Saturdays serve up pool games from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., tram or barrel rides from 4 to 5 p.m., then live poolside music by the bar from 7 to 10 p.m.

The Fun Continues
It’s likely you might not have the energy to fit everything in with a day pass. Another option is to book a vacation home for the weekend. This too is something you can only take advantage of in the summer because winter season books up. There are more than 100 rental homes available to camp overnight – or of course you can bring your RV or tent. If you rent a vacation home, you have the option of silver, gold or platinum homes that sleep two to four guests ranging from $120 to $159 a night. The homes are approximately 500 sq. feet and include cable TV…basically, just bring your swimming suit and toothbrush.

RV sites start at $55 a night and allow up to two pets. Tent camping costs $53 a night.

Indoor Fitness Pool & Wellness Center
For the fitness minded, Sun-n-Fun has an amazing, multi-million dollar Indoor Fitness Pool and Wellness Center. While membership is included for winter guests, summer visitors and local Sarasotans can purchase a membership to this facility for approximately $50 a month. A daily membership fee is also available for overnight guests who wish to use the facility. This facility features: a gigantic heated lap pool; Fitness on Demand with over 130 different classes; equipment to increase metabolism and improve circulation for those who cannot exercise; special classes in nutrition, supplements and living a healthy lifestyle; a Steam room and Infrared Sauna; a 22-person hot tub; and the usual gym equipment like treadmills and bicycles. A boot camp will also be offered this summer, separate from the Wellness Center membership.
