Schools Out, Get your Summer Fun Plans In Order Suncoast

This is the last week of school for many Suncoast children. Get ready for summer family fun here on the Suncoast as we compiled a great list of activities and places to add to your family’s fun planning this summer. We live in a place with so many diverse opportunities to enjoy outdoor spots, cool exhibits, and even animal fun while out of the classroom for the summer.

Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary – Big Cat Habitat and Gulf Coast Sanctuary is an ever-growing large-animal rescue in eastern Sarasota County. Founded in 1987 by Kay Rosaire, the non-profit sanctuary is a permanent home for dozens of exotic animals, offers placement for animals in need, and works to educate the public about animal care and conservation.

Bradenton Marauders – Grab the family and make a day of it at the ball field. Tickets start as low as $7 and can be purchased HERE. Check out the schedule for home games and special promotions, including Star Wars Night (June 11), Back to School Night (July 30), and Fan Appreciation Night (September 3). Also, sign up for the First Mates Kid’s Club (open to ages 12 and under) and take advantage of members-only activities and events during the season! 


De Soto National Memorial Ranger Led Kayak Tours – Tours operate during the summer from June to October. All equipment, including Kayaks (2-person tandem), paddles, and personal floatation devices (vests) are provided by the park for participant use. Tours average 1.5 hrs. and are conducted from park grounds. Kayak tours are offered for groups of up to 10 people on tandem (2 people) kayaks. Tour check-in is from 9:00-9:15 am.

Manatee County Libraries – there are many different FREE programs over the summer, including storytimes, puppet shows, sewing classes, arts and crafts, magic shows, yoga, and more!  Check out the SIX branches in Manatee County, including the Central (Downtown) branch, the Braden River branch, the Island branch, the Palmetto branch, the Rocky Bluff branch, and the South Manatee branch.

Manatee Village Historical Park – Our mission is to preserve and share the heritage of Manatee County’s founding period (1840-1918). With free admission and 14 points of interest, this is a great way to learn about the history of Manatee County and Old Florida, long before paved roads and electricity.

Marietta Museum of Art and Whimsy – Our Mission is to Operate an extraordinary art and whimsical Museum for the public by collecting, preserving, and exhibiting works of Artistic and Whimsical importance to Educate our visitors about our culture and history. We have created a Feel Good environment to Inspire, Restore and Lift our Spirits.  

Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium – Our manatees, sharks, sea turtles, and otters are ready to meet you 365 days a year at Mote Aquarium, located just minutes from downtown Sarasota and Lido Beach. Visitors can explore touch pools, hands-on exhibits, and windows into the science and conservation of Mote Marine Laboratory. Come have a blast and discover why Science Is The Attraction!

Ruskin Family Drive-In – Features current movies in a drive-in setting. Admission is $6.00 for ages 9 and up, $1.00 for ages 5 to 8, and FREE for ages 4 and under.  This includes both movies playing that night.  CASH ONLY. 

Sarasota Jungle Gardens – An Old Florida attraction since 1939, Sarasota Jungle Gardens allows visitors to experience things you won’t find anywhere else. Feed free-roaming flamingos, catch lemurs at play, take your picture with an alligator and see the beautiful gardens. Be sure to visit the Flamingo Cafe for a refreshing lunch or snack. Enjoy one or more of our daily animal shows. Kids Love Us!
