Linda Ronstad- I’m Pissed Off
It was the Christmas season in 1968. We were on a family vacation in Ft. Lauderdale, Fl. We rented a Mustang convertible! I remember cruising on Collins Ave. with friends singing and grooving to Linda Ronstadt and the “Stone Pony’s singing “Different Drum!” I remember it like it was yesterday.
I’m pissed off because yesterday while watching NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams, he unceremoniously announced that Linda went to the White House to receive the National Medal of Arts Award. He mentioned that she was battling Parkinson’s disease and lost her singing voice. That hit me hard and really bothered me. President Obama said that “he had a little crush on her back in the day!” I think that Brian Williams could have said more about Linda.
Linda Ronstad, Carol King and Carly Simon…back then I could listen to their music over and over. I am going to dig through the archives and put together a nice “playlist” on Spotify.
Linda had 38 Hot 100 singles, 21 of them went into the Billboard Top 40 and 10 of them reached the Top 10 back in the 70’s.
I am going to think about Linda Ronstadt today and say a prayer for her. She was and still is a part of my childhood…..many of our childhoods. I did find this “exclusive interview“ that Diane Sawyer did with Linda.
