Harry Chapin, All My Life’s A Circle
It’s hard to believe that Harry Chapin would have been 74 today. I attended many of his concerts in the 70’s on Long Island. Harry was a singer / songwriter for the people! He was killed in a fiery car crash on the Long Island Expressway on July, 1981. Harry did so much charity work. One of his legacies today is the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Florida. The mission: The Harry Chapin Food Bank is “to overcome hunger in Charlotte, Collier, Glades, Hendry, and Lee counties through education and by working in a cooperative effort with affiliated agencies in the procurement and distribution of food, equitably and without discrimination.” The website: www.harrychapinfoodbank.org.
One of my favorite Harry Chapin songs is “All My Life’s A Circle.” It kind of says it all. Here are the words and the video. Harry was a great guy, family man, singer…..a man for the people!
“All my life’s a circle”
Sunrise and sundown;
Moon rolls thru the nighttime;
Till the daybreak comes around.
All my life’s a circle;
But I can’t tell you why;
Season’s spinning round again;
The years keep rollin’ by.
It seems like I’ve been here before;
I can’t remember when;
But I have this funny feeling;
That we’ll all be together again.
No straight lines make up my life;
And all my roads have bends;
There’s no clear-cut beginnings;
And so far no dead-ends.
Chorus:
I found you a thousand times;
I guess you done the same;
But then we lose each other;
It’s like a children’s game;
As I find you here again;
A thought runs through my mind;
Our love is like a circle;
Let’s go ’round one more time.
