As part of the Military Appreciation Night festivities, the first 1,000 fans will receive a 2017 Military Heroes Card Set, honoring current and former members of the armed forces.
“Support of the military is one important aspect of our community commitment,” General Manager Rachelle Madrigal said. “The Military Heroes Card Set is a great way to create awareness for some real heroes here in our community and to honor them for their service to our country.”
The team is hosting a packing party at LECOM Park, 1611 9th St. West, Bradenton, to assemble boxes to be sent overseas to the troops. Open to the community from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, May 13, participants are encouraged to join Manatee Operation Troop Support (MOTS) in donating food and non perishable items including: Slim Jim’s, Beef Jerky, Cliff Bars, Muscle Milk, Nuts and Trail Mix, canned tuna and chicken, Ramen noodles, peanut butter, crackers, cookies, canned fruit, Pringles, Twizzlers, toothbrushes, black socks, Wet Wipes, playing cards, Sudoku and Word Find books.
“Our players have put in great time and effort to both their craft on the field and to community service,” Madrigal said. “Each of our minor league players is required to perform at least 10 hours of community service during the season, but most perform much more than that while keeping up with their demanding practice and game schedules.”
The LECOM Park box office hours are Tuesday-Friday non-game days from 11 a.m.-5 p..m. On game days, the box office will be open on weekdays from 11 a.m. until the end of the game and on Saturdays from 3:30 p.m. until the end of the game.
