Prepare for a cultural feast as Arts Advocates reveals its lineup of captivating programs and events for March, offering an array of enriching experiences for art enthusiasts of all ages. From an exclusive exhibit and sale of Highwaymen paintings to engaging workshops and insightful tours, there’s something to spark creativity and fascination for everyone. The board of directors at Arts Advocates is thrilled to showcase a remarkable exhibition featuring 50 exquisite Florida Highwaymen paintings at the Arts Advocates Gallery. Running on March 2, 3, 22, 23, and 24 from 2:00-6:00 p.m. daily, this exhibition celebrates the legacy of these talented artists who defied convention by selling their works from the trunks of cars along Florida highways during the 1950s. The event will also feature live demonstrations by acclaimed artist Curtis Arnett and a collection curated by renowned collector Roger Lightle, alongside fascinating insights from Roy McLendon, Jr. This exhibition, held in collaboration with noted figures from the Highwaymen community, promises to be a testament to the enduring spirit of creativity. Admission is free, and all displayed artworks will be available for purchase.

Arts Advocates proudly presents the “Full Circle” exhibit by member artist Lynn Armstrong Coffin, on display at the Arts Advocates Gallery throughout March. Coffin’s captivating creations, crafted from recycled materials, explore the symbolism of the circle in the cycle of life. Guests are invited to marvel at her works every Saturday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., with admission being complimentary.

Embark on a journey “Behind the Curtain” at the Van Wezel Performing Arts Hall on March 11 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m. Delve into the rich tapestry of art adorning the walls of the Van Wezel, with a special tour led by knowledgeable docents. Explore masterpieces by renowned Florida artists before stepping onto the storied stage, where tales of show business await. Tickets are priced at $15 per person and can be purchased at the Van Wezel box office or by calling (941) 263-6799. Proceeds from this event support the educational initiatives of both Arts Advocates and the Van Wezel.

Join Arts Advocates for their monthly luncheon program at the Sarasota Yacht Club on March 21 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featuring Samantha Bennett and George Nickson, co-founders of EnsembleNEWSRQ. Discover the world of contemporary music through their innovative performances, accompanied by a delectable lunch. Tickets are priced at $45 for members and $50 for non-members, inclusive of the meal.

Unleash your creativity with artist and educator Judy Levine at the beaded necklace workshop on March 30 from 12:00-2:00 p.m. Craft your own unique masterpiece while delving into the principles of design and color. All skill levels are welcome, with a workshop fee of $45 covering all materials.
