America The Beautiful Happy 4th of July

As we gear up to celebrate Independence Day, many will mark the birth of America with fireworks, barbeques, boating and similar fanfare.  Families will don matching red, white, and blue attire to show their pride for the USA.  And gratitude will be shown for Old Glory, the American flag.  And just as parties and celebrations […]

48 Hours in New York City During the 4th of July

As a small child I grew up in northern Indiana and the 4th of July was a big deal in the late 60’s! Our town had a big parade that I twirled baton in when I was 9 years old. There were floats and marching bands. Picnics and BBQ’s were part of the tradition of the holiday. It was a special day to celebrate our country. Since moving to Sarasota when I was 12, I have celebrated July 4th at the Lido Beach boat races, fireworks at the Palmetto green bridge, Sarasota’s Marina Jack and at the Beach House restaurant on Bradenton Beach. Home is always fun but I wanted to do something different this year.

Think Safety for July 4th Holiday

It’s a different type of July 4th celebration this year. No parades, very few fireworks shows, no large outdoor concerts. The celebrations will be small and hopefully controlled. There still can be so much fun this weekend. A family picnic in the park is always wonderful. There are many restaurants that are open that offer […]

American Rock and Roll Kicks Off the Tampa Bay Area July 4th Holiday Week

Since July 4th is on a Wednesday this year, it makes for an extra-long celebration starting from the weekend before to the weekend after! On the first weekend Tampa saw rock shows from 80’s hair bands to alternative and everything in between. A great weekend for live national acts coming to town! Kicking off Friday night was 80’s rockers Poison! This was the inaugural concert to kick off a series of shows at the Tampa Bay Rowdies soccer team’s home field, Al Lang Stadium in downtown St. Petersburg.
